No Poo... an update...

I have been "No Poo" since August 2010, and my daughter a couple months after. We both prefer this method of hair care, I know you think why would you not wash your hair. Well you are washing your hair but your not using the fake, chemical laden stuff the beauty care industry says you have to use.  Its like cigarette commercials that show a woman who has it all and implying she has it all and is sexy because she smokes their brand of cigarettes. The beauty care industry implys that as well in their advertisements, but we don't come from the same mold as everyone else we are all unique and different and lovely for the differences we have.

I found this on Crunchy Betty this morning and really like it and wanted to share. The picture was taken by Crunchy Betty but the quote from one of her readers, Kylieonwheels, or Kylie.

I have found my routine in washing my hair, I use two teaspoon's of baking soda and a squirt of aloe vera. Sometimes I use homemade apple cider vinegar and sometimes not. Sometimes I can skip a night, but not always, I will wash it every night most of the time.

Ashley is still finding her groove in using it, most of time she has it down, but since she is distracted easily sometimes she slips out of it. :0) She will tell you herself she is a blond through and through. But she prefers to use baking soda and apple cider vinegar.

Both of us have discovered that our hair is lighter and healthier. We both have had comments from people we see a lot on how light our hair has become, even our hair dresser. I was asked if I colored my hair, no I don't and haven't in 15 years or so...I think its been awhile.

Over the weekend I added something new to my hair routine. Hot oil treatment, the kids thought it was the funniest thing, but I loved it and my hair did too. Again this is from Crunchy Betty, she did two posts last week on it and I had to try it over the weekend.

The first post was on creating and the second on indulging. I used a coconut oil and calendula infusion and really liked the feel on my scalp. I did use shampoo to get the oil out since she says the no poo method doesn't do a good job after washing the oil treatment out. I then did a washing with my baking soda/aloe. Saturday night I did my hair in my sleeping braids and Sunday morning my hair had so much body and looked so healthy.

Now my hair is thick and long, to about my waist, and I haven't had any problems with the no poo. I don't use commercial hair products and get my hair trimmed up once or twice a year. I braid it at night to sleep and that gives me a little wave but otherwise my hair is really straight.  I am going to use my homemade liquid castille soap to wash when I use the hot oil hair treatment after this and that will be probably every other week.

If you have any questions, ask away or look up No Poo in the search engine and you'll find all kinds of info and instructions.

I hope you have a wonderful day.

Love,

Erika

  1. Thank you for posting on this! I see so many people talk about starting the experiment, but so few update later. I kind of want to do this, but haven't gotten up the gumption yet!
