Baked beans from Scratch

We love baked beans since we are striving to stay out of the aisles of the store and keep to the edges I wanted to make baked beans without buying the precanned variety.

I have an abundance of dry beans and one day a few weeks ago I made a batch and we loved them.

Below are pictures of a recent batch we made for a cookout that went along with the homemade mayo I showed you Monday.

For this batch I soaked 2 cups white beans over night. You could add a variety of beans if you wanted I think that would be tasty.

The next morning I brought them to a boil and simmered them till the skins split when blown on.

While they cooked I hung laundry on the line, put dirt around the potato plants, watered the garden, played with kitties, and just enjoyed the early morning solitude.

After that I drained off the water and put them in the crockpot and added to the crockpot. 2 cups Ketchup, 1/2 large diced onion, 3 garlic cloves minced, 1 1/2 c brown sugar(homemade), 1/3 c molasses, 1/4 Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/4 tsp coarse pepper.

I mixed this up and put it on low for about 5 hours.

This summer I want to make our own ketchup instead of using storebought for our baked beans and BBQ sauce I will let you know how that turns out.

These are very tasty and we love them. Add bacon to it for added flavor or I add ground beef or sausage sometimes for ranch beans.

Enjoy
