Homemade Ketchup

Lately, I have been decreasing the products in our home that have High Fructose Corn Syrup, Naturally Knocked Up has an 8 week sugar detox program that I have been enjoying reading. NO I am not trying to get knocked up :0) But, the detox program has wonderful ideas and info.

The first challenage is getting rid of HFCS from your home. Ketchup is a major thing in our home, it is a veggie for Yguy so I wanted a HFCS free product without the price tag.

I did a trip to Sam's club last week and bought a #10 can of tomato sauce. Last night I made a quart jar of ketchup to see how it tasted before I did the entire can. It tastes pretty good, now the test will be Yguy since he is picky and our ketchup eater.

I doubled the recipe to get a quart here it is as follows the original not doubled.

8 ozs tomato sauce
6 oz tomato paste
1 T. Worcestershire Sauce

4 T. Sucanat, Rapadura, agave, whatever sweetner you prefer. (when I doubled this I used only 4 T sucanat not 8 I didn't want so much sugar. The sucanat is a unprocessed sugar cane and has all kinds of good things minerals etc.
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
onion powder would be good but I am out.
put all ingredients in a bowl, whisk until blended. When you taste this, be careful – you really want to chill it before you start adding more ingredients as it tastes more mellow when it’s chilled.

We will see how it goes with the picky one but hubby and liked it and this morning chilled it is still good. And it has no HFCS and unprocessed sugar. This would be easy, I think to culture by adding whey.

Have a blessed day

love,
Erika
