It was a clear cool day and when the sun broke over the trees at about 9 am I put the meatloaf in. At noon it was done and the oven was at 300 degrees. So I hurriedly put together the potatoes and put them in. Now they took longer and the oven kept cooling off (no lower than 150) because I kept forgetting to rotate it or move it back into the sun. I love our tall old trees, but not when cooking with the sun.
It was fun eating a meal that was at least half cooked by the sun. Cooking the butternut squash out there would have been neat to. Maybe I will get bread done in there soon as well. The days are perfect for it right now.
Tonight I cooked something in it as well, a cassarole. We are going to eat out under one of those old trees like we did last night and then have a bonfire.
Hope all have a wonderful evening.
Love,
Erika
How delightful that you now have another alternative in how you cook for your family :)

That's so neat! I really would love to purchase something like this! :) Thanks for sharing your experiences!
ReplyDeleteDear Erika,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you've had such good success with your solar cooker; I think it's a wonderful thing to become more self-sufficient (at least when the sun is shining!).
Now I'm really going to have to get my cooker out of the basement and give it a try!
Love,
Marqueta
Oh, that sounds like a wonderful night you have planned there!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing about your solar oven - very interesting to read about!
