Simple Woman's Daybook, February

FOR TODAY
Outside my window... Beautiful, lovely, refreshing, crisp, a brand new day!
I am thinking... nothing really just sitting here typing this and thinking of the things I need to do today.
I am thankful for...friendship, mostly the friend I have in my husband. I am not one who has to have lots of friends. I have a few close friends, but large amount of friends is very exhausting for me. My hubby is my best friend.
From the learning rooms...just another school day all of us looking forward to spring break.
From the kitchen...Sour dough muffins made with sprouted wheat. Last night we had shepard's pie which was delish!

hamburger cooked and seasoned to your taste, Ashley did a taco seasoning with tomato sauce. Layer this on the bottom of the pan
veggies of your choice and the amount you want layer this next
Mashed potatoes this is the top layer.
Bake till warm throughout
You can top with cheese if you want. But it is good without.
I am wearing...one of my favorite demin skirts and a blue top. I am dressed to my shoes and have my hair pulled back in a clip on top but down in the back.
I am creating...at the moment I am an advisor for my daughter as she is creating a quilt. She is doing great on her own, but likes me somewhere near incase she needs my advice.
I am going...to teach of bunch of girls, 8-11 years old, how to make bread tomorrow night.
I am reading...Jesus the Christ and Sunday School lesson
I am hoping..."We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul- We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things"  Thirteenth Article of Faith
I am hearing...
birds chirping, Ashley reading a scripture to me, a dog signing as she makes herself comfy for a nap.
Around the house...muffins cooling, dogs sleeping, cats napping, dishes to be washed, seedlings to be fertilized, catnip infusion to drink, plants to be watered, and life to be lived.
One of my favorite things...Demin skirts, soft cats, baby goats, spring green, a lovely note in the mail...I know more than one thing.
A few plans for the rest of the week:Kids are spending the night with grandma Friday, Hubby and I are going to Baton Rouge to the temple, picking up one of Ashley's baby goats, Seminary for the kids, turning in Wyatt's Eagle Scout paperwork that has been signed and passed by his Board of Review! Storehouse volunteering, bread making class....
Here is picture for thought I am sharing. Last night Wyatt had his Board of Review for Eagle Scout and did a good job. He was very nervous, but glad it is over and is now an Eagle Scout! They told him you are now and always will be an Eagle, there is no used to be an Eagle.

Simple Woman's Daybook, January

FOR TODAY... January 3,2012

Outside my window... Frosty in the 30's, definitely cooler than over the weekend when it was in the 70's. But the sun is coming up over the trees and though it might be cool today it promises to be a beautiful day.

I am thinking...Of nothing in particular we had a nice weekend, Monday was quiet we worked in the garden so thoughts of what else needs to be done the prep for planting its first crop, potatoes at the end of Feb. Also how empty the house feels our oldest cat Weezy passed away yesterday she was 15 and had a very long life. But something is missing without her, nagging the younger cats or us to feed her.

I am thankful for...For a brand new year to start over with new plans and old. Jan 1st is always a treat for me it marks a new beginning and spring in a couple of months is a major plus!

From the learning rooms...a quiet week, we planned on only one week for holiday vacation which was last week, but hubby asked me to take another week to charge my batteries, so instead of bookwork other work that can be counted as learning, but we won't call it that more like fun, relaxing, and energizing. And working on the paperwork for Wyatt's Eagle Scout project, now that he is done with all his required merit badges he gets to work on 3 business letters and the paperwork to submit for his project. Oh and Ashley finished her Bee Keeping essay for a 4H contest and that was sent off yesterday.

From the kitchen...Well I had my oatmeal with the cranberry, apple, and orange relish also added flax seed and raisins. Yummy! Today I have dinner to make I think chili will be good with some beans I presoaked last week but haven't used yet.

I am wearing...a long A line skirt with embroidery on the bottom and fringe and a black sweat shirt since it was nippy this morning in barn feeding.

I am creating...Hmmm, on the sewing table right now nothing, waiting for a good sale at Hancock to load up on fabric for 2 new quilts. Oh, I am working on a newsletter for Relief Society for Feb and a new format for the Sunday Program for church. Craftiness can be on the computer as well. Well I did buy a lovely white flat sheet the other day at the thrift store with a beautiful wide lace edge to it that I want to make a slip or two out of one of the slips will have the lace edging the other will have a different lace from my stash and we'll see whats left for what else we can make maybe 3 slips.

I am going...Nowhere till Thursday when we go to a 4H meeting.

I am reading...The Depression Cure by Stephen Ilardi, Potatoes not Prozac by Kathleen DesMaisons, and Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey. Also Jesus the Christ by Talmage and the scriptures. Yes, I know a lot of books, but I read a little on each everyday,  one of them I have planned on reading 2 pages a day and will have it done in a year. I'm not in a hurry, but have tried many times to read it and have a hard time getting into it but want to badly so little bites daily.

I am hoping...to live each day to the fullest and to live like I know I should.

I am hearing...Just a Heartbeat Away by Gandalf on Between Earth and Sky. Of course on Pandora I just love that resource. This is my Loreena Mckennitt channel

Around the house...A basket of clean kitchen towels to be put away, a load just finished to be hung on the line, Bath towels on the wooden drying rack from last night's showers needing to put away. Cats sleeping all 3 I think missing bossy Weezy especially this morning when she was her bossiest. Dogs resting after their morning run, candles burning their lovely scent this morning it is pine, and the feeling of a well loved home.....

One of my favorite things...candles flickering, birds feasting at the bird feeders, the feel of a long skirt, bare feet on the grass, the purr of a devoted cat, a snuggle and the soft words "I love you" from your teenagers, laughter and love at the dining room table while sharing a meal....

Here is picture for thought I am sharing... A new project, this was a Christmas present from my dad and stepmom, a Hoosier cabinet. It is in need of loving and attention a wood panel on the back replaced, paint stripped and sanded, new hinges, new casters maybe...a project I can't wait to dip into over the next few months. A little at a time I think no rushing a loving refurbishing. Right now it is in use since this is my new herb cabinet it is full to the brim too. I'm thinking of painting it an antique white not a stark white that it is now, and adding some Hoosier touches that have been removed. We'll see I have had fun getting to know this cabinet and the history.

~~Simple Woman's Daybook~~

FOR TODAY

December 12, 2011

Outside my window...

Overcast and dreary, its one of those days that is good for baking, or curling up with a good book, or sewing. Which the last will be me in a few minutes.

I am thinking...

I hope the kids ginger bread house holds together. :0) They are making one for a contest as well as it is a yearly tradition we do. This year we are doing one from scratch and it is interesting to say the least, but a good experience.
I am thankful for...

For my health, family, debt free, and secure. With the way the world is going, I am thankful for many things.

From the learning rooms...

Ginger bread house making and all the other things that entail school.  Friday night we watched a movie called The Conspirator, it is about the only woman tried and convicted of being apart of the assasination of Abraham Lincoln. Very touching and sad movie about a dark sad time in our history. Ashley had read about her recently so it was interesting for her to see it unfold on TV. If you are into history this is a must see though at times you can get angry for her and want to cry for her as well.

From the kitchen...

Again ginger bread making, but today is also cheese making. Usually I make cheddar but I have several little wheels of that and our jar of feta is almost empty so feta it is today. I made a batch over the summer and it is just now coming to the bottom.

I am wearing...

A brown skirt and homemade blue peasant top oh and socks. My hair is in a thrown up bun, I have let my bangs grow out for almost two years so they are long enough that I don't need bobby pins to hold them up when I put my hair up like this. Though by the end of the day my bangs will be falling out from the weight of the bun, my hair is to my waist and thick, so very heavy. A lady yesterday said she knew why I grow my hair so long, so that on cold days I can wrap it around my neck and ears to keep them warm.

I am creating...

Christmas goodies, skirts, quilts, truffles, soap, calenders, fun things

I am reading...

Besides the scriptures, The Moor, it is a Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes book by Laurie King.

I am hearing...

Lovely music from Pandora, right now it is The Vote from the movie The Village, a lovely violin planning sweet music.

Around the house...

a mess, icing and ginger bread stuff on the table, and weekend mayhem all over the house. Its a Monday..
One of my favorite things...

A lovely letter in the mail box. So much more personal than an email.
A few plans for the rest of the week:

ginger bread contest, field trip to watch a chef demonstrate for 4H, storehouse volunteering,  finishing up sewing skirts and the quilt. And 35 miles to go for Wyatt on cycling...
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

The quilt, this was last week I think on Wednesday I now have the borders on two sides. I am doing the corners different than the pattern says so that is taking me a little longer to think it thru and plan before a I cut so that I don't mess up. :0)

Hope all have a wonderful blessed day.

Love,

Erika

Daybook

FOR TODAY
November 3, 2011

I have not done in....well I don't know when I did it last, but hubby said he liked when I did. I remembered it this morning while I was clearing out old files etc in my documents folder.

Outside my window...

It is cloudy and misty lots of moisture in the air. I wish it would rain since the dust is very thick. With the windows open and the dryness it is making the house dustier faster that normal. There are reds and yellows in the trees everywhere because of the dryness though and that is a lovely sight.

I am thinking...

Of many things that need to be done today and tomorrow....It is my birthday this weekend and my dad is coming for a visit. We have not seen him in 2 years so we are looking forward to the visit.

I am thankful for...

For my husband who has had patience this past year...
From the kitchen...

A big pot of broth to can up, some sour dough goodie needing to be made, dinner will be a cassarole that I premade since we won't be able to make dinner today.

I am wearing...

A long brown tiered skirt, a striped top in different shades of red, and not shoes at least not yet.
I am creating...

A couple of pleasant blouses made out of bandanas and planning sewing gifts for Christmas

I am going...

To 4H this afternoon, and then the kids also have a afternoon class they do once a week for church. We will be home after hubby gets home most likely.

I am reading...

An Anne McCaffrey book

I am hoping...

There is not enough room to type all I am hoping for.
I am hearing...

Rick Springfield's Jesse's Girl on Pandora, Wyatt getting something out of his closet, and Ashley coming in the front door.
Around the house...

Well I started last week cleaning a room a day moving things, dusting, wiping walls, reorganising things. It needed to be done and my birthday and dad visiting gave me the incentive. I have been going through the motions of living the last couple months so things needed to be put back to rights. Now that I am feeling myself somewhat again it has been nice to do a little at a time.

One of my favorite things...

Organisation I am ridiculous about things like that it makes me feel in control even when everything around me is out of control, clutter stresses the you know what out of me. So now that the world is in chaos and things are in turmoil everywhere knowing where things are in my home gives me comfort and I can focus better and get through all the other fuzz out there.

A few plans for the rest of the week:

My 38th birthday and not doing anything for it. I am not a let's go have a party or take a trip for my birthday kinda girl. I like it simple my family with me and just enjoying them being with me for another year. I like to be remembered on my birthday and mothers day, but I don't have to be pampered or spoiled just a hug and a greeting nothing more.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
See the lovely color of the Red Maple behind me, that color and varying shades of it and yellow are all thru the forest. Wyatt took this of me this morning so this is what I am wearing today. I am being chewed on my one of the barn cats, he was never weaned properly so feels he has to nurse on his people by chewing.

I painted my toenails a couple weeks ago a bright pink, I wanted some color on them which is unusual since I usually am not a nail painter at all. Having to redo and keep up with it all is a pain especially on fingers that are in constant use. But sometimes I will paint my toes some outrageous color blue, purple, bright pink something that brings a smile to my face, but no one else but family will see.

You probably can't tell for those who read this blog normally, but I have lost over 20lbs and am very happy because of it. Not the way I lost it, but loosing it yes. Now I hope to keep it up in a good way or at least keep it off. I did the same last fall but gained it and some more over the summer.

I hope each of you have a blessed day.

Love Erika

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...
Breezy and lovely, the windchimes are chiming on the front porch softly, the breeze in the trees is relaxing,
I am thinking...
Of a jumble of things
I am thankful for...
The knowledge my husband I gained 15 years ago...Families CAN be together forever
I am wearing...
A demin skirt, flannel top, and socks
I am creating...
Right now a blog post other than that nothing, for now....

I am going...
to the vet to pick up two kitties who got fixed today in an hour or so, take my daughter and someone else to seminary, and enjoy the evening with my family
I am reading...
Nothing to detailed... I have been reading ALOT of Amish books not just fiction but books about them. I found out we had Amish in our area in the 20s, 30s, and 40s. After a trip to the library I found out they were right here where we live now and a house I just love is the last remaining house they built. I love this house it has a little carriage house with it and everytime we drive by I just drool.
I am hoping...
That the next couple of weeks goes easy for my husband and his sister as they deal with and sift thru my father-n-laws affairs. He passed away this morning after a long illness.

I am hearing...
My hubby snore, after many restless nights and an emotionally trying day he is asleep and I am sitting here on the bed with him. Our rat terrier is next to him and his cat is on him. They are all sleeping.
Around the house...
The kids are quietly playing a new game, the older cats are enjoying a relaxing day without Pippin who is one of the cats getting fixed, the new chicks are in a pen outside now along with a heat lamp and lots of food and water. Since this breed (Cornish Roasters) eat like there's no tomorrow.
One of my favorite things...
Spring

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

These are The T's, Thing 1 and Thing 2. They are brothers and are very spoiled, they love their people very much, and are becoming very good at catching mice. You can't hear but they were purring very loudly together while I took this picture.

Simple Woman's Daybook February

Today:
February 2, 2011

Outside my window:
This morning as we woke it was 29 degrees it will warm to the 40's today but not much into them. It is bright and clear though. It rained all day yesterday, but made our little nest comfy. The dogs slept, the cats were sprawled on whatever lap they could get to, across the back of the couch, or tucked into a cubby hole somewhere hiding from the kitten. Who isn't all that much of one anymore, at 5 months old he is about their size but a good pounce every now and then is good for everyone, including the dogs. They all, including the people of the house got pounced this morning.

I am thinking:
Let's see little rambles, the slip to put the elastic in the waistband and then it will be done, handles for the new church bag I am making, take hubby to get his tux measurments for the wedding he is going to be in, sugar cookies for 4H today the dough is in the fridge; spring, can't wait for it to come; Pippin, my little fur ball; candles, oil lamps, laundry, yummy homemade recipe I made last night that I will share sometime soon....

I am Thankful for:
pen friends, blogs that inspire, friends, family...

From the Learning Rooms:
pre algebra, biology, history, home ec, english, but for today 4H and history since we will be going to the big town.

From the Kitchen:
sugar cookies colored pink for 4H, a yummy chicken brocolli cassarole, herbal teas that I love.

I am wearing:
a long demin skirt I made a couple years ago from a pair of jeans, a green pullover, warm clothing for the cold day ahead. No jewelry my hair in up in barrets but I don't know if I'll put it all the way up.

I am creating:
well, I have a stack of fabric on the washer to wash for turning into yummy things. On the sewing table a new slip, church bag, a tie for Yguy I finished yestersday....

I am hoping for a wonderful day with my children at 4H and on the drive to Gulfport. My kitten, Pippin, is sitting next to me finally worn out from all his poucing and run in the pasture with the dogs. The birds are at the feeders in the backyard, Ring Neck Doves always in a pair, Chipping sparrows love them all.

Ashley is working on her seminary for the morning, the animals are fed I am getting ready to bounce Yguy out of bed. He is my late night person, Ash is my early morning riser. Get breakfast made, dinner made somewhat for tonight since we will be gone all afternoon.  Take delicious sips of my raspberry and dandalion tea, watch as the kids cut out sugar cookies decorate them with chocolate sprinkles and bake up their goodness.

 A reminder of summer's delights....

Have a simple blessed day

 FOR TODAY

Outside my window...
Outside our windows it is cold and dreary. But the breeze is not blowing so the cold isn't as biting as it could be. Frost everywhere and horefrost coming up from the ground.
I am thinking...
Not to much this morning I am little fuzzy headed I think I might be coming down with Yguy's cold. I hope not I hope it is just a continuation of my allergies that have decided to flare up recently. But I also have a list of things that need to be accomplished today going through my mind.
I am thankful for...
For my family, they are an ongoing thankfulness lately. It has been such a long winter so far for me and they have been my rock and steady assurance during these months. I am thankful for a Father in Heaven and a Savior that loves me through all my faults and knows me to my very core and still loves me.
From the learning rooms...
Normal routine, though today I think we are making a trip to the DMV to get photo ID's for them so that we can renew their health insurance. I am not a happy camper to do this though for reasons that do not belong on this blog.

Homemade au gratin potatoes for dinner last night as well were made. Today I think a pot of homemade chicken noodle soup with crusty french bread and a salad maybe.

I am hoping...that the rest of my herbs come in today Dandalion and catnip. And 2 books I ordered from half.com one on Tasha Tudor and the other Backyard Medicine.

I am reading...
The Book of Mormon....again. Ash and I are reading it together and I want to have it read by girl's camp. Also The Last of Mohicans we are reading together.

I am hearing...
Wonderful celtic music on Pandora, music is very soothing to me so we listen to it alot. We are careful what we listen to classical, celtic, instrumental.. piano...
Around the house...
The window's curtains are closed to the world still, I will open them soon. Just enjoying the little enclosed nest they create. The oil lamps and candles are lit, the cats and dogs have had their breakfast so they are falling asleep in their little places throughout the house. It is still and quiet I have my steaming cup of red raspberry tea sitting next to me.
One of my favorite things...
The wisdom to take care of myself though I don't look to that wisdom like I should. I hope to change that.
A few plans for the rest of the week:
A baptism Saturday at church, youth tonight, school
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
The livingroom this morning

Have a simply blessed day..

Simple Woman's Daybook , October 26, 2010

Outside My Window.....it is gray and glooming, a lite breeze, and very humid. We just took the dogs for a walk and all that keeps it from being down right uncomfortable is the breeze

I am thinking....of all the things I must do today we took last week off from school for a little fall break and this week it is back to the books.

I am thankful for...the blessings I have, though at time I feel I have none, I know I am abundantly rich in what I have been given.

They came over and filled pots and buckets with water last night and we gave them 2 cases of our hurricane drinking water. I'm glad we were able to help them some. And that our son's dog, Flower, gets better soon she has hurt her leg, she didn't even want to go on her morning walk.

I am hearing....
the stillness of the house.

Around the house...Ashley is working on seminary work, I am planning the day out, fabric calling my name to make it into something fun...

Simple Woman's Daybook , August 10, 2010

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...
Sunday and cool for summer. Last night we walked the dogs in the front pasture and it was actually nice not so hot and humid as it has been. But summer is far from being over here in the south.

I am thinking...
Of my list of things today
From the learning rooms...
We started school yesterday and it was a great day. We started a new schedule and it worked beautifully and they seemed to love it. They are both excited to read about the middle ages this year and they both are looking forward to Apologia Biology and the new microcope coming in the mail soon.

From the kitchen...
Tomatoes everywhere....We are freezing them for me to turn into something yummy at a later date

I am wearing...
a green skirt my hubby's favorite and gray top and for now I am barefoot.

I am creating...
I finally finished an apron I started in June. And I am thinking of other sewing projects.
I am reading...
School books and Little House in the Big Woods

I am hoping...
My van gets out of the shop soon it has been there a week now

I am hearing...
the dog wanting out of Ash's room, the freezer and fridge, and a bird outside.

Around the house...
sleeping cats, sleeping teenagers soon to be awaken, dishes to put away, and a day to get started

One of my favorite things...
The smile on my daughters face when a math problem clicks into places and she finally understands.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
school, volunteer at the Bishop's storehouse, my mom coming up for an afternoon visit, library, youth....

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
Red Figs and Yellow Pears...Once they turn colors they are so pretty but the rain is making them split and the bushes are so big and thick as we pick green ones fall off and I can't let them go to waste. :0)

Simple Woman's Daybook , June 8, 2010

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...
On my front porch actually I love sitting out here in the early morning, such peace. The weather is lovely this morning but will soon heat up to sweltering humid hot. The birds are singing, 2 kittens are playing under my chair, and a dog in the distance is barking thru the woods probably chasing a rabbit.

I am thinking...
Of the sweet words I read this morning in my comments folder. I don't get to many comments on this blog but lately the ones I have gotten have been so sweet and uplifting. Thank You all!
I am thankful for...
the garden and producing some of our food we eat.

From the learning rooms...
Book Reports....The kids have books to read this summer and book reports to write on them. The finish their first book last week and started working on their reports yesterday. Well they thought they were done but mom rejected them and they are starting over and finishing today

From the kitchen...
Yesterday, we made homemade bread, biscuits, and canned some potatoes. This is a first time for me to can potatoes so we will see how it goes. So far so good.
I am wearing...
A gray tshirt and my green skirt I made a couple months ago. And an apron....
I am creating...
Menu and food for girls camp other than that I am created out.
I am going...
To be blissfully staying home today, we did yesterday as well it is such a lovely feeling. Friday we are going to the coast about an hour drive south and having our pictures taken with grandma and going swimming.
I am reading...
Proverbs 31

I am hoping...
That all goes well next week and that we do a good job in the kitchen.

I am hearing...
One of our meat chickens is crowing! He is very good at it considering he is only 12 weeks old.
Around the house...
Well, right now I am on the porch and I have 2 kitties playing under me. They are about 8 weeks old and cute as can be. We have named them The T's or T. I know so unoriginal but the T stands for Thing 1 and Thing 2 and we call them T for short. Our barn cats never know their names so this is really just for us.
One of my favorite things...
Babies of any kind human or animal they are all so cute.
A few plans for the rest of the week:
pictures being taken, swimming, youth, errands, canning, gardening, and just loving the sweet little heaven I have here in the middle of nowhere.
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
Last week Yguy made cookies and brought me a couple while I sat on the couch. Speck took it upon himself to beg shamefully, I was holding a cookie above the camera to take this picture. He thinks he is so sweet and deserves his share. His daddy has spoiled him rotten! Yes, dear husband you have!

Simple Woman's Daybook , June 1, 2010

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...
Well, on my porch since this is where I am sitting it is beautiful. A frog is talking, the birds are singing, it rained and the squirrals are bouncing from branch to branch and dropping water droplets everywhere. It makes it sound like it is raining all over again.
I am thinking...
Of how happy I am, my hubby is home. he was in Florida over the weekend from Thurs to Sun and I didn't sleep a wink.

I am thankful for...
The knowledge I have of the plan of salvation and temple work and the comfort it brings to me.

From the learning rooms..
School is out for a few weeks at least. I have been working on summer school schedules and we have been planning what needs to be worked on etc.

From the kitchen...
Nothing to exciting
Yesterday, I cooked up the first squash of the season it came in last week and I just got around to cooking it. Our garden is slow at taking off this year. It might be because of the rabbit eating the beans, or the fact I tried something someone else suggested and it didn't work so I went back to what worked for me and everything is doing much better.

I am wearing...
My long tiered demin skirt, a grey t-shirt with my hair pulled back, and my pink outside shoes since I am outside on the porch.

I am creating...
hmmmm.... Nothing comes to mind a skirt still on the sewing table needs to be sewn, Yguy needs a new rob his is from when he was 7 and he has definately outgrown it.

I am going...
To one of our local food pantrys to volunteer today.
I am reading...
Proverbs 31 and I am letting my mind slip away into a science fiction book that I Love and haven't read in awhile. The White Dragon by Anne Mccaffrey I love her Dragonriders of Pern books
I am hoping...
We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

I am hearing...
Birds lots of birds
Around the house...
fur, unfortunately hubbies dog is shedding and I am vacuuming it up daily
One of my favorite things...
Learning and broading my mind....narrow mindedness is the lack of knowledge
A few plans for the rest of the week:
volunteering today and friday, start shopping for girls camp kitchen supplies, youth, gardening...

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
here is a picture of some flowers our neighbor gave me not long after we moved in 4 years ago and I have not a clue what it is. But is is so prolific, it seeds its self but the original plant is still there and comes back bigger every year. It blooms profusely and after the flowers die off there is a black seed where the bloom was. The flowers close up at night and open when the sun is on them. Does anyone know what this is called?

Outside my window...
Well, I am on the front porch and it is nice and cool, the birds are singing, the sun is shining, and it is promising to be a very hot and humid day.

I am thinking...
I have a daughter who is turning 16 on Sunday! Am I really old enough to have a 16 year old I guess so.

I am thankful for...
right now the peace and tranquility around  me. I see a squirral's tail peeping around a tree just twitching like crazy. Kittens underneath my chair purring as they nurse. So many things that are so simple but I am so thankful for.

From the learning rooms...
This is the kiddos last week of school so they are finishing up some things. I am doing a study on the Proverbs 31 woman and planning out summer school which will start in about 4 weeks after camps etc.

I am wearing...
My walking clothes but later will be wearing a green skirt and top.

Nowhere to day thank goodness

I am reading...

I am hoping...
To enjoy this summer and have a wonderful garden

I am hearing...
Ash in the house telling the dog to stop barking, kittens purring, mama cat talking soothingly to them, birds, squirrals...
Around the house...
Girls camp stuff piled in our room plates, forks, knives, cups, pans, towels, menu plans etc. We are gearing up for camps Ash and I will be at girls camp me cooking her having a blast and Hubby will be a scout camp.

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...
The sun is just coming up and lighting the world around us. The birds are singing as they are most mornings but I never tire of there song. It looks to be a beautiful day.

I am thinking...
Of the scriptures we read last night on repentance. Such lovely words to be reminded of and to be reminded of the suffering that was done for us, willingly, so that we have that priviledge when needed.

I am thankful for...
Reminders daily that help me stay on the straight and narrow and keep me chuggin along in this life to strive to do better daily.

From the learning rooms...
We are all getting the doldrums and are counting down the days to end for a couple weeks at least.

From the kitchen...
Fresh homemade biscuits in the oven right now. Homemade pasta later for lunch.....

I am wearing...
My walking clothes right now but will wear a little later a green skirt and button up top.
I am creating...
I am not very creative so nothing much I do have a skirt cut and needs to be sewn this week.

I am going...
To read our Relief Society lesson for Sunday this morning and hopefully the Sunday School lesson later this week.

I am reading...
Nothing and I am hoping to stay away from reading leisurely for awhile I get  lost in the pages of a book if I do and everything else falls to the wayside.

I am hoping...
many things

I am hearing...
Hubby tie his boots and tell me about his dog waking him up several times last night

Around the house...
stuff...I feel clausterphobic with to much stuff and I have a family who thinks their stuff is very important even if it has no use and hasn't been used for awhile.

One of my favorite things...
the garden but not the rabbit feasting on my green beans as they pop out of the soil.

A few plans for the rest of the week:
youth, school, errands....Life

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
Some roses from last week on our desk above the computer

Simple Woman's Daybook , May 4, 2010

FOR TODAY
Early Monday Morning
Outside my window...
Wet it rained last night so everything had a nice long drenching. But the birds are still chirping and loving life.

I am thinking...
Of a sad decision I must make. It is not life impacting or anything but it is one I would rather not think about but I must. It is rather silly but to me I feel a tiny part of me will be missing, and the fun will be taken out of the event in question at least for me.

I am thankful for...
for everything this morning

From the learning rooms...
Looking at ordering school books for next year in the next couple of days and seeing what I need to add to it etc

From the kitchen...
At the moment nothing. Dandalion Tea in a few minutes, cold with Stevia. This weed makes all the difference in me I truly believe in the restoring and healing properties of the natural things Heavenly Father has given us. Later.... Banana Choc Chip muffins made with white wheat

I am wearing...
My long corduroy thrifted skirt and a gray Tshirt, today is weekend rescue so nothing to fancy today. I am growing my bangs out so my hair in pulled back in barrets. I am participating in The Challenge and will post for the next 7 days starting Today what I am wearing. Since I wear skirts 98% of the time this should be easy and fun.

I am creating...
Well I was going to make another long tiered skirt but that has been nixed and will now turn the fabric into a a skirt but a different pattern.
I am reading...
I just finished reading "The Widow of Larkspur Manor" by Luwana Blackwell, The Gresham Chronicles is the name of the 3 books that start with this one I just read. I really liked it, it is set in the English countryside during the 1800's a clean christian love story.

I am hoping...
For sunshine to dry our clothes today but if we don't get it till tomorrow that is fine we needed the rain.

I am hearing...
"Dawn" from Pride and Prejudice from the computer speakers and total quiet thru out the rest of the house.

Around the house...
A tornado has struck the inside of the house so a total mess!

One of my favorite things...
The scriptures that teach us so much

A few plans for the rest of the week:
kids eye appointments, seminary, youth, Bishop's Storehouse, week in feminine dress.....

Here is a picture for thought I am sharing...
My roses are blooming like crazy this year...finally. It has taken me a couple of years to get them to do anything, except try to die. And this year they are blooming the rain battered them the night before this pix was taken. The wildrose (pink) usually blooms once and then the deer eat it and the rosehip with it. this year there are lots! I am excited.

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...
The sun is coming up and it looks to be a beautiful day. Its cool but not to cool makes for a wonderful way to wake up.

I am thinking...
Of all the things I need to do today and the things I want to do....I wonder which will win

I am thankful for...
My husband

From the learning rooms...
Nothing to interesting just the same Ancient Civiilizations, math, and spelling

From the kitchen...
Hubby is making his breakfast. But later today we will have homemade noodles being made in the kitchen for dinner.

I am wearing...
A skirt that is homemade. I made it last summer and a pink button up blouse that I have had forever. Oh and I am barefoot.
I am creating...
I have many things just sitting waiting for me to create, a skirt, 2 aprons, a pillow to finish, 2 to make. But like many things I have to do it is on the list.

I am going...
No where today :0)

I am reading...
My new books I bought on Half.com. Rodales Organic gardening and Lasagna Gardening. I love the 2nd and I wanted the 1st for reference and for 75 cents plus shipping it was a steal.

I am hoping...
To get patterns cut out, sunflower seedlings planted, tomato seedlings planted......

I am hearing...
The Summer Tanagers are back this year I can hear them calling for a mate. They were not around last year but I am so happy to hear them this morning. Also the male Cardinals are singing I guess there are some lone bachelors still without wives.

Around the house...
A yard sale pile in the corner of the living room and books open in various stages of study.

One of my favorite things...
Laundry dried sheets

A few plans for the rest of the week:
seminary, youth, errands, yard sale, spending the night with my mom night before yard sale, and just loving that my week is a slow one.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
The picture on my header is the wonderful Clementis growing on the pole for our satelite interent and the picture from yesterdays post with the oil lamp. If you have time to look I don't have a picture to put here for this week.

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...  a little overcast but it is early morning and will brighten up soon. The birds are singing to morning awake and that is such a lovely melody

I am thinking... of the things I need to do today and the things I need to do to continually to learn and to grow

I am thankful for... Jesus Christ and a Heavenly Father who loves me thru all my faults.

From the learning rooms... yesterday was homemade pasta for Yguy to make on his own for dinner. Today is replanting Zinnia seedlings into proper pots. And then of course we are on ancient Rome, a spelling test, math quiz....

From the kitchen...Biscuits by Yguy

I am wearing... my sweat pants I and Tshirt standard walking outfit and working in the garden outfit. After breakfast we'll be replanting those Zinnias but afterwards I will change into a green skirt and unbleached muslin top, both homemade. Of course an apron will top those as well at least for part of the day but most likely all of it.

I am creating...throw pillows for my bed. New bathmats for the bathroom using an old towel to make 2.

I am going...to town later today ugh.... I don't really want to.

I am reading... Luke

I am hoping... There are many things I hope for a few only Heavenly Father knows since they are a constant plead in my heart that I am doing what I need to be doing not just what I want.

I am hearing...The birds outside the window next to me, Yguy making biscuits, the dogs playing in the backyard...The usual morning noises

Around the house...we have a yard sale pile in the corner of the livingroom that we are slowly filling up for our May 1st sale. You would have thought I would have done this when we spring cleaned. A empty rubbermaid box sitting next to me that held a bunch of books it is now empty... I sold some on Cash4books and the rest I traded at the used book store in town $43.00 in credit I was a happy camper.
I have been selling them online a little but I was really tired of the trickling sales so I just unloaded them. And if feels good! Ash is working on her seminary lesson, the cats are bathing after eating breakfast, and the dogs are running around the backyard acting like they haven't seen each other in forever instead of just overnight.

One of my favorite things...homemade things, items we can buy yes but getting the satisfaction of wearing a homemade outfit, or eating a mostly homemade from scratch meal, or reusing to make a brand new item you need. I made laundry soap earlier this morning and that brings such satisfaction and joy.

A few plans for the rest of the week: a meeting with a friend to discuss the menu for girls camp since she and I are the camp cooks this year, kids youth, school, volunteer work.....

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...This is a pillow sham I bought last year at the thrift store there was only one and I loved it. Well I decided finally what I will do with it. I cut it in half and I am going to sew it to make to throw pillows for our bed. I had many ideas of what I could do with it but this one is what I want to do.

Simple Woman's Daybook , April 13, 2010

Outside my window...
The birds are singing to their future mates, the sun is shining, the green of spring is in abundance, and in the shade under the oak trees the cats are taking catnaps and dreaming of birds.
I am thinking...
of how blessed I am at this moment to witness this beautiful symphony outside my window. And that I can't wait to get out in and participate
I am thankful for...
For a hubby who is my soul mate and friend and who puts up with more than he should.
From the learning rooms...
Well Ash has been enjoying the great outdoors in the early morning to do her seminary work while I walk and we all have been enjoying the last weeks of
Ancient Civilizations
From the kitchen...
white bread and wheat bread loaves are rising  and the kiddos are eating fresh homemade pasta for lunch. It is so good I am tempted to eat a bunch!
I am wearing...
Almost everything I am wearing today is homemade. :0) I love that I am wearing a peasant blouse and a shorter tiered blue skirt with white lace on the hem, I made both last summer. Oh and pink flip flops I day around the house shoes, in summer at least. Oh and a white embroidered apron LOVE my aprons.
I am creating...
besides homemade pasta for lunch.....A long tiered skirt still need to cut it out from last week and some more aprons. I told you I LOVE aprons
I am hoping...
for many things, but mainly to get the garden in at the end of this week I looked at the farmers almanac and it says at this end of this week is the best time to put the veggies I have left in.  And I wanted to try and follow that little book this year.
I am hearing...
"Wyatt! Wyatt!" this is from Ash he is doing something to aggravate her and I am ignoring it! Yes, I am ignoring it. "Wyatt, are you trying to annoy me?" I think he is....:0)
Around the house...
Laundry to put away, laundry in the washer to put on the line, leaves to be mowed with the bagger for mulch, Another bouquet of wild flowers on the windowsill, a messy kitchen from this mornings baking...
One of my favorite things...
Aprons!
A few plans for the rest of the week:
Youth, FHE tonight since last night seminary ran late, mowing leaves up, trip the Sams club, planting, sewing
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...
My kitchen helper today, while I made pasta. He sat under me the whole time and then was totally fasinated in me taking his picture. Yes, I do trip over him...alot! He only loves me because I am a messy cook..

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY

Outside my window... Such peaceful loveliness, the birds are singing the sun awake, the cats are playing, a cool breeze but not to cool, it promises to be a lovely day.

I am thinking...About the family home evening lesson we have for tonight. We are working on some of the kids Duty to God and Personal Progress items. It is fun working on these things together and seeing the kids like and dislike and seeing them get excited when they have completed a goal or a section in their books

I am thankful for...For the guidance we were giving this weekend at Gen. Conference. Such wonderful words from inspired people. I am thankful for a weekend full of guided inspiration.

From the learning rooms...Seven more weeks of school, well at least from this unit study. I have started planning summer school. Fun, not all day, life, are my focuses this summer. Yguy wants to be a chef so I will focus more on that item for him. Ashley wants to learn more womanly arts so I will incorporate more sewing, organizing, running a house, etc for her. She has recently been asking for this when she didn't want to before, I have teaching a little but now will step up the lessons to a willing student now.

From the kitchen...Today I need to bake bread and some bagels maybe...Not sure what I will make for bread breads. We still have 2 loaves of banana bread in the freezer I might just stay with that.

I am wearing...sadly for this my excercise clothing, but later I will put on a khaki skirt and blue and white top

I am creating...This weekend I created a skirt which is so much fun to wear. The color and pattern I love! I also finally finished one of my Emmeline aprons I have one more cut out and I need to get the constrasting fabric for it and then I will have 2 new aprons. I have a apron pattern a friend gave me that I would like to tackle soon but I am looking for just the right fabric for it. I also have fabric to make a light long tiered skirt hopefully I can cut that out today.

We are going...to move baby chicks today to their yard, work in the garden, me morning walk, Monday stuff...

I am reading...nothing at the moment

I am hoping...for many things

I am hearing...birds chirping....such a lovely sound

Around the house...we have te usual weekend mess, piles of laundry for my monday wash day, a load ready to hang on the line, the usual lived in house things.

One of my favorite things...fresh clean laundry off the line

A few plans for the rest of the week: seminary today, volunteer work, temple trip, hubby and I teaching a class at the YSA conference Saturday, Spending as much time as I can with my family.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...Skirt and apron I worked on this weekend. The apron is reversable. I love them both such fun this to wear. I just love wearing items that I have sewn with my own two hands. It makes me feel so good
